Energy efficiency on board
Minimizing fuel consumption - right from the shipyard
Both fleets stand out in particular through their very high energy efficiency. In the most recent newbuild projects, ambitious energy-efficiency standards were set and implemented by the newbuild team through a wide range of measures. In the Mein Schiff ® fleet, Mein Schiff 3 to Mein Schiff 6 consume around 30% less fuel (bunker) than ships of comparable size. Likewise, the two fleet ships Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 fully harness current state-of-the-art technology and achieve energy consumption up to 40 percent lower than that of comparable ships.
The EUROPA 2 and the HANSEATIC class ships benefit from an optimized hull design, which enables fuel savings of around 18 percent. Key efficiency levers in ship newbuilds comprise a comprehensive energy-management system, intensive use of waste heat from the main engines, and a high-efficiency air conditioning system. Besides these, the ships´ outstanding hull hydrodynamics, environmentally friendly underwater silicone coatings and extensive LED lighting systems also contribute significantly.

Each year, we publish an overview of the absolute fuel consumption of both fleets, broken down by fuel type. This section also includes the annual absolute CO2e emissions – the data can also be found in the respective sustainability report.
