Energy efficiency measures on board
Lower energy consumption to reduce fuel consumption
We incorporate measures to reduce energy demand and fuel consumption as early as the development stage of new ships. Various technical solutions have been implemented in the most recent newbuild projects for the Mein Schiff fleet, including energy management systems, the utilization of waste heat from main engines, energy-efficient air conditioning systems, LED lighting concepts, and hydrodynamically designed hull shapes.
For the EUROPA 2 and the HANSEATIC class, a hydrodynamically optimized hull design was realized; this reduces water resistance and thereby contributes to lower fuel consumption. This is complemented by additional technical measures such as LED lighting systems, the use of waste heat, and specialized underwater coatings.
Energy and emissions key figures
Each year, we publish an overview of the absolute fuel consumption of both fleets, broken down by fuel type. This section also includes the annual absolute CO2e emissions – the data can also be found in the respective sustainability report.
