From the Rockliner to the Full Metal Cruise – the evolution of Mein Schiff event cruises at sea

Udo Lindenberg on board the Mein Schiff

With the year’s final event cruise, Mein Schiff is rounding off another season that has once again demonstrated the importance of shared experiences to so many guests. From the Andrea Berg Cruise, the David Garrett Cruise, the Schlagerliner, the Jeckliner, the Full Metal Cruise, Rock ’n’ Sail to Schallwellen – 80s Classic Rock or MeerBeats meets EDM: in 2026, thousands of guests once again gathered to share their passion with like-minded people at sea.

What is now an integral part of the range of cruises Mein Schiff offers began more than 15 years ago with a simple idea: a cruise should not be defined solely by its itinerary and destination, but rather by shared interests, special moments and a strong sense of belonging. What began as four event cruises has – over the years – grown into a diverse portfolio featuring up to 11 cruises per year.

The Rockliner with Udo Lindenberg as the starting point of a development

Among the early pioneers of this trend was the Rockliner with Udo Lindenberg. In 2010, this format gave rise to the first event cruise of this scale in Germany – one that focused not only on the route or destination, but also on the shared experience of a like-minded community on board. Udo Lindenberg embarked on a musical journey with the Mein Schiff fleet, accompanied by his Panikorchester and special guests, for six cruises altogether.

“When we set sail on the Rockliner back then, we simply moved the stage out to sea. Being on the high seas with our fans, making music and getting to hang out offstage together – that was something pretty special. It’s great that the idea lives on to this day and that such a wide range of music-filled cruises have evolved over the years,” says Udo Lindenberg.

The Full Metal Cruise is now in its 14th year and was sold out within a few hours when bookings opened this week. For the first time, Mein Schiff will launch the Jeckliner 2027 through a new partnership. Together with Gaffel and Jeck im Sunnesching, TUI Cruises will present the Jeckliner im Sunnesching on board.

Shared experiences as part of brand development

“With the Rockliner, we demonstrated early on that the cruise itself can be reason enough to travel – regardless of the route. Today, our portfolio ranges from hip-hop and Schlager to heavy metal. What matters most is not just the programme, but that we bring people with shared passions together on board. We wish to apply this experience to new formats as well,” says Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises.

Mein Schiff also draws on its more than 15 years of experience in event cruises when designing new event formats. Going forward, the focus will increasingly be on how to create shared experiences that extend beyond the confines of a cruise ship.
