Mein Schiff 5 fresh from the shipyard: more comfort, a new look and new technology for filtering microplastics

After eleven intensive days at the shipyard in Dubai, Mein Schiff 5 has emerged in a refreshed, modern look: Just a few weeks before Mein Schiff 5 leaves its winter cruising area, the feel-good ship has undergone a comprehensive modernisation with noticeable improvements for guests as well as new technology for filtering microplastics.

A makeover for an even better feel-good experience on board

During the shipyard stay from 8 to 19 January, numerous public areas of the ship were modernised. The aim of the work was to further enhance the feel-good experience and make the ambience even more contemporary. A total of 6,500 square metres of carpet were laid in many indoor areas, including the Atlantik - Classic Restaurant and Atlantik - Mediterranean Restaurant, as well as in the TUI Bar, Diamant Bar and Anckelmannsplatz, visibly enhancing the overall look and feel of the spaces. Popular meeting places such as the X-Lounge, the Surf & Turf - Fish Restaurant, the Schaubar and the GOSCH Sylt - Fish Restaurant now feature new furnishings after the shipyard stay. In total, more than 150 chairs, benches and sofas were refurbished. In addition, sanding work was carried out on the staircase leading to the Hanami in the Große Freiheit - Exclusive Area.

Redesigned sundecks

Mein Schiff 5 has been updated not only in the interior areas, but also in the open air. The area around the 25-metre pool and the pool in the Lagune on deck 12 has been extensively refurbished and freshly painted, while the exclusive sun loungers on deck 15 have been completely renovated and modernised - ideal retreats for relaxing sea days.

Mein Schiff 5 becomes the first ship in the fleet to be fully equipped with microplastic filters

During the shipyard stay, INDIKON filters from Cleaner Seas Group were installed in the laundry. The filters are connected directly to the washing machines and can remove microplastics from the wash water before it is passed on for further wastewater treatment on board. They are connected directly to the washing machines and, according to the manufacturer, filter up to 99% of the microplastics from the wash water before it reaches the central wastewater treatment plant. The filters are cleaned regularly and can be reused. As the first ship in the fleet, Mein Schiff 5 has been fully equipped with microplastic filters, complementing the existing measures to reduce microplastic residues from laundry operations.

Mein Schiff 5 today embarks on its first cruise following the shipyard stay in Dubai today and will call at major cities such as Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi on its next voyage. In March, the feel-good ship will embark on a voyage around Africa before being deployed in the eastern Mediterranean during the summer season.
