Three godmothers for the Mein Schiff Flow: TUI Cruises is introducing a triple sponsorship scheme for the first time

We were looking for one but found three: For the first time in the history of TUI Cruises, three women – Julia (aged 20), Annabelle (aged 35) and Karin (aged 67) – are jointly acting as godmothers at a ship’s christening.

Together, they will conduct the christening of the Mein Schiff Flow in the port of Trieste on 20 June. The idea arose from the response of the Mein Schiff community to the selection of the godmother. What initially looked like a traditional decision quickly turned into something else: a plea for community and solidarity.

More than 15,000 votes from Mein Schiff fans, as well as an in-house jury, helped determine the final phase of the selection process for the godmother. In total, around 900 female candidates had applied. The result was clear: not for a single candidate, but for three as a team. “When people link their stories to TUI Cruises, it becomes more than just a holiday. A sense of belonging is forged across generations," says Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises. “In the end, it was clear that we had chosen three strong personalities who, with their individual qualities and working together as a team, are a ‘perfect match’ for the Mein Schiff Flow and represent the diversity of our guests."

Star designer Guido Maria Kretschmer surprises the women on board

The three future godmothers received the news in person on board. Designer Guido Maria Kretschmer took Julia, Annabelle and Karin by surprise with his decision. With his distinctive and seasoned approach to the big stage, he gently guided the three women through their preparations for the big performance, drawing on his expertise: Christening gowns from the Guido Maria Kretschmer Couture collection, which Guido Maria Kretschmer selected especially for the three women, sparkling accessories, and shared laughter in front of the mirror. “For me, the triple sponsorship is a wonderful symbol of modern solidarity,” says Guido Maria Kretschmer. "And I love the idea that there will now be three godmothers."

The christening on 20 June 2026 will also break new ground: The ceremony will take place at several locations on board the Mein Schiff Flow. Rather than a single standout moment, this creates an experience that extends throughout the entire ship and engages each guest on an individual level. Other highlights of the launch tour include live performances by Rea Garvey and Tim Bendzko.

Julia, Annabelle and Karin: Three women, three stories

Julia (aged 20) was eleven years old when she first boarded a Mein Schiff in 2016: On a transatlantic crossing from Hamburg to New York. In particular, the moment in front of the Statue of Liberty has remained vivid in her memory to this day. "It was a great adventure," says the keen basketball player. As the youngest of the three patrons, she represents a new generation of female crusaders: curious, open-minded and, naturally, international.

For Annabelle (aged 35), her travels mean more than just the destinations.
Friendship, love and genuine closeness – she found all of these on board Mein Schiff during its 25 cruises. She loves the quiet ones Moments: the early hours of the morning on the still-quiet deck, a warm coffee in your hand, gazing out at the endless sea. "The most beautiful moments are often the quietest," she says. For her, that is precisely where the special magic of cruises lies.

Karin (aged 67) has long been more than just a familiar face on board. Having travelled with the Mein Schiff fleet on more than fifty occasions, she has special memories associated with each of the eight ships: Family moments, shared celebrations and rituals that have become cherished traditions over the years. With her warm, cheerful nature, she embodies exactly the feeling that many associate with cruises: consciously enjoying life, bringing people together and sharing special moments

A new understanding of tradition

With its triple godparent scheme, Mein Schiff is expanding on the traditional role of the individual godmother. Instead of a single face, this time the focus is on three women from different generations and with different lifestyles, who come together as a team, united by their enthusiasm for Mein Schiff.
